Who runs this
Kitna Hua (kitnahua.in) is run by Gautam Anand, an individual based in India. Write to hi@kitnahua.in about anything on this page, including requests to see, correct or delete your data.
What we collect
Your name and phone number, which identify your account. Your PIN, stored only as an argon2 hash, so nobody, including us, can read it. Your UPI ID, if you choose to add one so others can pay you. If you run trips, your email address, if you choose to add one, used only to send you one welcome email when you sign up and a PIN reset link when you ask for it.
What you and the people on your trips log: trips, expenses, who paid, how they were split, and payments marked as settled. Guests added without the app are stored by name only.
A session cookie that keeps you logged in, and, if you turn on notifications, the push address your browser gives us.
Usage analytics through PostHog (EU), such as which screens are opened, tied to your account ID. We use it to find what is confusing or broken.
What we never collect
Card numbers, bank details or UPI PINs. When you pay someone back, your own UPI app handles the payment and Kitna Hua never touches the money. If you buy a paid plan, the payment is processed by Cashfree Payments, and we only receive whether it succeeded.
Who sees your data
People on the same trip see your name, the trip's expenses and balances, and your UPI ID if you added one. They never see your phone number or PIN. The admin who runs a trip sees the phone numbers of the people they invited.
We do not sell your data or share it for advertising. It is stored with the services that run the app: Vercel (hosting), MongoDB Atlas (database), Cloudflare (DNS), PostHog (analytics), Resend (welcome and PIN reset emails) and, for paid plans, Cashfree Payments.
Deleting your data
Write to hi@kitnahua.in from anywhere and say which phone number the account uses. We deactivate the account and remove your phone number, UPI ID and email within 30 days. Expenses you were part of stay on the trip under your name, because the other people's balances depend on them.
Logging out clears the trip data saved on that phone.
Grievances
Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you can raise a grievance with Gautam Anand at hi@kitnahua.in. We reply within 7 days.
